Contemporary Turkish Art Summer School

     Yunus Emre Institute carries out cultural and artistic activities, as well as educational programs, through its cultural centers and contact points worldwide. It also supports scientific research.

Organized for the first time this year, the Contemporary Turkish Art Summer School aims to share Turkey’s contemporary art accumulation with the world and promote Turkish art more closely.

Participants will explore examples of painting, sculpture, and architecture in Istanbul, Ankara, and Eskişehir, and enrich their understanding through academic input.

Theme and Subject

The Summer School aims to offer a multidisciplinary perspective on contemporary Turkish art, providing theoretical, practical, and experiential learning opportunities.

  • Seminars: Participants will attend rich-content seminars delivered by university professors, museum experts, artists, critics, and others, gaining in-depth knowledge about the historical development of modern and contemporary art in Türkiye, important art movements, and key artists and collectives.
  • Art Criticism and Analysis: Participants will visit and examine major works of contemporary Turkish art accompanied by experts, exploring themes across architecture, painting, performance art, visual culture, and public art.
  • Art Project Development: Participants will work individually or in groups to develop original art projects, gaining practical experience in areas such as performance, new media, and archival practices.
  • Meetings with Artists and Curators: Participants will interact directly with artists and curators to gain insights into their creative processes.
  • Program Date and Venue

    The program will take place between  20 - 31 July 2025 in İstanbul, Ankara, and Eskişehir.

    Target Audience and Participant Requirements 

  • CV
  • Be proficient in Turkish or English at minimum B2 level, preferably C1, proven with an internationally recognized language certificate
  • Be between 20–40 years of age.
  • Be a graduate, postgraduate student, or professional in contemporary art, art history, visual arts, design, architecture, architectural history, or cultural and arts management.
  • (Preferably) Have experience in museums, universities, art galleries, or cultural/artistic projects (must be documented).
  • Have no health issues that would prevent travel.
  • Be open to intercultural communication.
  • Complete the application form fully and accurately.
  • Must not have attended previous YEE Summer Schools.
  • Have no criminal record or involvement in any legal offense nationally or internationally, and be able to provide documentation.
  • Only one participant per country will be accepted.
  • Program Language

    The program will be conducted in English taking into account the international participant profile.

    Accommodation

    Accommodation will be provided in single rooms at hotels.
