Turkish Archaeology Summer School

     Yunus Emre Institute conducts educational and cultural activities through its cultural centers and liaison offices around the world, while also supporting scientific research.

    As part of its mission to promote Türkiye’s cultural heritage,  Turkish Archaeology Summer School As part of its mission to promote Türkiye’s cultural heritage, the Institute is organizing the Turkish Archaeology Summer School, which will take place from 17 July to 31 July 2025. The program will start in Çanakkale and continue through İzmir, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, and Ankara, concluding in Istanbul. A total of 15 international participants will be selected—graduate, or PhD students in the fields of archaeology, museology, anthropology, art history, or history, or professionals with a strong interest in Turkish archaeology and cultural heritage.

Theme and Subject

The Summer School is designed to explore Türkiye’s rich archaeological heritage.

  • Seminars & Workshops: Seminars with rich content will be delivered by university professors, excavation directors, field experts, museum directors, and other specialists, focusing on the archaeology, history, architecture, and art history of Anatolian civilizations.
  • Film and documentary screenings: Screenings of documentaries and films prepared about excavation sites and ancient ruins.
  • Field trips: Troy, Gallipoli Historical Peninsula, Smyrna Agora and Ancient Theatre, Teos Excavation Site, Ephesus, Karahantepe Excavation Site, Göbeklitepe, Gordion.
  • Historical and touristic city tours: Trips to Çanakkale, İzmir, Şanlıurfa, Gaziantep, Ankara, and İstanbul.
  • Program Date and Venue

    The program will take place between 17 - 31 July 2025 in Çanakkale, İzmir, Şanlıurfa, Gaziantep, Ankara, and İstanbul.

    Target Audience and Participant Requirements 

  • Be between 20–45 years of age,
  • Have at least a B2 level, preferably C1 level, in Turkish or English, and possess an internationally recognized language certificate,
  • Provide documentation of ongoing or completed graduate (master’s or PhD) studies in archaeology, anthropology, art history, history, or folklore, or be a professional working in one of these fields (archaeologist, museum staff, art historian, historian, anthropologist) and able to prove it,
  • Preferably have publications in archaeology, anthropology, art history, history, folklore, or related social sciences,
  • Have a reference from a scholar in archaeology, anthropology, art history, history, folklore, or related social sciences,
  • Preferably have received awards on international platforms in the fields of archaeology, anthropology, art history, history, folklore, or social sciences,
  • Be interested in Turkish archaeology, Turkish art history, Turkish history, Turkish folklore, or social sciences, and preferably be able to document related publications,
  • Complete the application form fully and accurately,
  • Obtain a comprehensive health report from a state hospital,
  • Have no criminal record or involvement in any legal offense nationally or internationally, and be able to provide documentation,
  • Preferably document any other relevant certificates obtained in this field,
  • Be open to intercultural communication.
  • Program Language

    The program will be conducted in English, taking into account the international participant profile.

    Accommodation

    Accommodation will be provided in single rooms at hotels.
